Sheridan Kowta
Secretary
Sheridan Kowta first joined Books Thru Bars in the fall of 2021 and has been a steadfast member since. From day-to-day operations, to volunteer management, to marketing and communications, Sheridan is involved in many facets of the organization. By late 2023, she took on the role of Secretary when the organization became its own independent non-profit.Â
A proud Oregon Duck, she has degrees in Journalism and International Studies. What anchors her to this work is the foundational belief that knowledge and education should be accessible to everyone. The act of connecting incarcerated people to reading materials is a small but persistent step toward abolition.Â
Outside of work and volunteering, Sheridan enjoys everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer: waterfalls, craft beer, u-pick berry farms, and independent bookstores.Â
